YOUTH RUGBY INTRODUCTION Our club ethos is that all the boys should enjoy their sport, meet new friends, and learn about participating positively in a team sport, which is the essence of the game of rugby. We ask parents to encourage their children and if possible come and watch them training, and attend games, as the boys enjoy it more when their parents and family are on the side line cheering them on.

When the boys move from Mini Rugby to Youth Rugby they will experience a 15 a side game and a full pitch for the first time. From a rugby point of view the next four years are very important ones. We will build on the principals of the game that they will have already learnt in our mini section, or if your child is experiencing rugby for the first time, we will teach them how to pass, tackle, evade and run properly so that they can play the game safely and enjoy it.

We will also teach the boys decision-making skills, ?where to, why to, when to? Everybody make mistakes, at one time or another, its human nature. The boys will be taught to encourage one another when mistakes are made, and to help one another play as a team.

Malahide Rugby Club has a strong policy of inclusiveness. At youth level, coaches are instructed to include as many players as is possible in friendly games and league/cup games.

A Youth Development Officer (Dale McCauley)has been appointed to the club. He will be responsible for the IRFU schools rugby development programme in the local secondary schools. He is also involved with the introduction of "tag rugby" to our local primary schools for 5th and 6th classes.

FEES Fees are 80.00euro for one child, 50.00 for the second and 30.00 per child there after to be paid within three weeks of participation.

UNDER 13s LEVEL

Squad numbers are up to around 20 now and rising.The squad has been together for several years now and train every Sunday from 10.30am to 12.30pm (if there?s no match), games take place on Sundays. Since moving up to the new clubhouse the under 13s have increased their numbers, but many of the boys have come through from last years Mini Section. The team plays in the Metropolitan league and cup competitions. The team is coached and managed by Andrew Blair (0876868192) and Paul Byrne (0863226214)Boys born between July1st 1995 and June 30th 1996 are eligible for the under 13s.

UNDER 18s LEVEL

Many of this current under 18's squad have been playing the game of rugby in Malahide since their mini days,with league and cup success over the years. In addition a number of new players have also commenced this season, and we are delighted to welcome them into the squad. The squad went on tour to France last September for the RWC and attended the Ireland V Georgia match in Bordeaux before playing a match themselves against a local French side.
The squad meets three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays from 7.30pm to 9.00pm in the club and also on Sundays at 10pm. Every Sunday we meet at 10.00am for either a match fixture or training. Typically these sessions will finish at 12.00noon (unless we are playing away from home). The team is coached and managed by the following: Mick Breen (0872382256), Andy Watts (0864005977), and Ronan Murphy (0872274332). Manager: Joe McKenna (0872386595). The team plays in the Metropolitan and Leinster under 18s league and cup competitions.
